Reese Witherspoon Better Not Be Lying In Cryptic ‘Big Little Lies’ Tease

This would not be a little lie … it’d be a big one.

Reese Witherspoon caused “Big Little Lies” fans to sort of freak out after she posted a cryptic Instagram possibly teasing a second season.

“Spending #SundayFunday with these ladies … working on some new lies,” wrote Witherspoon.

The actress has been open about bringing back the HBO show for Season 2, telling Entertainment Tonight, “We’re hoping for maybe a second season. It’s all about just making sure it’s just as good as Season 1.”

(Warning! Spoilers below!)

“Big Little Lies,” which is based on the 2014 novel of the same name by Liane Moriarty, wrapped up its first season with Madeline (Witherspoon), Celeste (Nicole Kidman), Jane (Shailene Woodley), Renata (Laura Dern) and Bonnie (Zoe Kravitz) all banning together after Bonnie pushes serial abuser Perry (Alexander Skarsgård) to his death. It was a satisfying end. But with a detective still interested in the details of the death, Season 2 definitely wouldn’t be a day at the beach for our heroines.

(Cue the beach GIF.)

For those wary of a second season ― R.I.P. “True Detective” Season 2 ― just look at what HBO has done with “The Leftovers.” That’s also a series based on a novel that has moved past its source material, and it’s now considered one of the most-critically acclaimed TV shows out there

Witherspoon just better not be fibbing. We can’t take the lies.
